The Name. The Pun. The Fun Ahead.

Why did we choose Fine & Dandy Farm?

Well, if you know me (Liz) I really enjoy the underlying meanings of things. Especially when you can make a pun or a smile any time you say a word or phrase and no one else gets it.
Growing up my sister and I watched old musicals that most do not watch any more. 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. I bet 1 out of 5 of you reading this have watched that movie. How about the song "I Will Always Love You"? You are saying that is Whitney Houston's song. Nope, you are wrong. Dolly Parton wrote it and sang it in a little movie of hers. In that movie (to be said in a minute), the song "Hard Candy Christmas" was also sang by Dolly's character. That song says that "I will be fine and dandy. Lord it's like a hard candy Christmas. I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let sorrow bring me way down."
We have been through alot as our little family over our time. All families have their own story. We will get into ours later. But, we will not let sorrow get us down! I will be Fine and Dandy!
Sean and I can agree that the song "A Hard Candy Christmas" is the best Christmas song. And, you all know that us agreeing is something unusual. 🙂
So back to my puns. 🙂 When we bought the farm, the previous owners told us that there was an old poultry barn that used to be here. It was buried/burned out behind our current barn and where the sow lot will be. Now.... I know the 1 out of 5 of you that watch old musicals are getting it... 🙂
We have decided our next big dog was going to be a Dane. This would be so we can train it to be a service type dog for help being a "push" dog. The dog would be able to stand and be able to push on it's back to get up off the ground or help pull to the next thing to help up off the floor. It will take at least 2 years for the dog to be strong enough to support full weight. So, we better start now. (And, Camo is not getting any younger.)
Our Dane story is fun as it is too. I started looking and found a great breeder in Ohio but she did not have any pups until Spring. Okay! Put me on your waiting list. (The colors were amazing!!) I kept looking because I knew we need to find one to get started. I found a non-registered full blooded puppy at a great price in Kentucky! Sold! He will be our service dog in training. A couple weeks went by and I got a phone call.
"Liz, I have you on our wait list and I have a female available."
Oh shoot.... Sean is going to kill me... "What color is she?" (Notice that I didn't ask a price....)
"Blue Brindle"
"oh my goodness! Let me call my husband real fast and I will call you back."
Yep, you know how that call went. LMAO. Katelyn wanted a Dane puppy too. Perfect! Christmas AND Birthday Done!!
Katelyn named her future puppy first. After much back and forth, The brindle girl will be Dolly for short (she will have a registered name too.) Dolly will be a full rights female that we will be able to take back to the breeder and breed to one of her awesome color studs. OH that's awesome! Now, Katelyn has at least 2 SAE projects to pick from next year. 😉
Back to the story... So, Dolly is coming to live on a former poultry farm (now show pig farm). Dolly needed a good name for her new friend that is here too. Dolly and Burt Reynolds played opposite in the great musical where the "Hard Candy Christmas" song came from. (Have those 1 of 5 figured it out yet? Or are we up to 3 out of 5 yet.) So, Burt Reynolds is the name of the male Dane from Kentucky. The Backwoods Barbie will come home Saturday. Then, the great co-stars of The Best Little Whorehouse of Texas will be home on our new farm. The former chicken farm. But, not a Chicken Ranch. 😉
Lots of puns and fun coming up with this. But, all and all, we will be Fine & Dandy.
Tomorrow, I will talk about the pigs.
-Liz
